How did we get here . . . ?

April, 2015. Barbara calls me during her break at work and says, "There's an RV show downtown this weekend - want to go?"
I'm stunned. Yeah, I might have mentioned in the past maybe doing the RV thing once we hit retirement age, but as I remembered, it was met with solid indifference. And understand, neither of us have camped, glamped or RV'ed since getting married in 1984, so this is a big deal even considering doing something like this. Little did we know that this one trip to downtown Atlanta would spark a quest to find the perfect motorhome for a lifestyle we'd never anticipated embarking upon.

It was mind-boggling. First of all, we found out very quickly that we had to learn the nomenclature of the RV world; pop-ups, travel trailers, 5th-wheels, toads, and of course, Class A, Class B and Class C motorhomes. And there's some very nice product out there in all the categories. Once in the Georgia World Congress Center, we realized that for us, it was go big or go home(less), and that a Class A motorhome was the only way to go, given what we figured at the time we wanted to do.

But which one? Everyone has likely heard of Winnebago, but unless you've been in the market for one of these big boys, you've probably never heard of Tiffin, Newmar, Holiday Rambler, Georgetown, Entegra, etc., etc., etc. And should we go with a gasser (traditional Ford V10 gas engine) model, or do a big honkin' diesel? (More on THAT debate later) Ultimately, our wallets told us that while diesels are nice and have certain qualities that make full-timing more comfortable, we'd be sticking with a gasser.

First impressions in April of 2015? Everybody makes a pretty decent motorhome, but we find ourselves going back into the Tiffin models for a second or third look that same day. We just may have been hooked . . .

We're Dave and Barbara Richard, and we're living the ultimate retirement experience - traveling the U.S. and Canada in style in a Tiffin Open Road 36LA Class A motor home, playing golf and stopping at every weird and wacky roadside attraction we can find.
